Location data is the most sensitive thing you can share. Here is exactly how Wayshare handles it.
Your account (email, optional display name, a hashed password) and, while a session is live, the GPS fixes your device sends — position, accuracy, heading, speed. Route origin/destination are stored only if you set them.
Only people who have your share link, and only while you are actively sharing. If you list a session publicly, it appears in the Discover directory while live — without coordinates; viewers still need to open your link to see the map. Pausing or ending a session stops all viewing instantly.
Trip history stays in your account so you can review past sessions. Deleting a session from your list archives it and kills its share link. Deleting your account permanently removes your account and every session and location fix it holds.
No advertising, no analytics trackers, no sale of data. Map tiles and address search are proxied through our server to MapTiler, and routes to OSRM, so your browser never talks to third parties directly.
One HTTP-only session cookie to keep you signed in. Nothing else.
